A Journey of (Self) Discovery

As a participant in the exhibition "Ich & Wir" 2023 . Azimut Gallery, Berlin, Germany.

The artist has created a powerful series of three photographs that explore the
transition of the female body, the issue of childhood sexualization, and the complex search for identity that many women face. Drawing on Simone de Beauvoir’s
famous statement that “one is not born, but rather becomes, a woman,” the work challenges society’s role in shaping female identity and the pressures that women face to conform to societal expectations.

The photographs feature the artist’s sister at the beginning of this transition, as
she grapples with the realization that she must begin to hide her changing body.
Through these images, the artist captures the vulnerability and confusion of this
pivotal moment in a young woman’s life, as well as the societal pressures that
can make this transition even more difficult.

The work speaks to the universal experience of female identity formation,
highlighting the challenges and complexities that women face as they navigate
the expectations and judgments of society. Through its intimate and personal
approach, the work encourages viewers to reflect on their own experiences and
the ways in which societal norms and expectations shape our understanding of
gender and identity.
